Rehydrate and remineralize with this tasty low-carb lemonade!

Glass of lemonade on a counter

I have struggled with staying hydrated and keeping my electrolytes up throughout my life. I grew up drinking only pop/soda and juice all the way until I was about in my mid-20s. After going Raw Organic Vegan for about 3 years I learned how to break that habit and switched to more natural drinks and ways to get and stay hydrated. Now that I'm a vegetarian on a moderately low-carb diet, I have been trying to find ways to switch all of the things I've loved into low-carb or at least moderately low-carb versions. And now I have done it with this low carb lemonade!

The Ingredients & Why

  • Organic Monk Fruit Powder - Organic Monk Fruit Powder is the star here as it is a keto sweetener meaning that it has no carbs. I have also found this to have no adverse effects as well like erythritol does (erythritol causes me to have stomach cramps). Another great thing about Monk Fruit aside from the 0 carbs and calories is that it is super sweet, so you only need a tiny bit compared to other sweeteners or sugar alternatives. I always buy 1 container of Monk Fruit per month and it normally lasts me the whole month. I include it in my smoothies, teas, and lemonade! It has helped me to lose weight and manage my PCOS since it allows me to avoid extra sugar and carbs.

  • Organic Lemon Juice - is made from real lemons and not concentrate. I feel it is more potent and helps me to detox.

  • Reverse Osmosis Alkaline Water - I have been experimenting between Essentia and Body Armor, which are two brands of Reverse Osmosis Alkaline Water. Both seem to be about the same to me, so I alternate between the two depending on price. But the importance of high-quality water is key. I've been finding if I drink filtered tap water, or any other water for that fact, I end up dehydrated and in the hospital with dehydration, or I find myself averse to drinking water if it is not one of these two brands. I feel that is my body and intuition telling me which type of water is best for me. And the only type of water I feels safe and is good for my body is this type of water. I also feel that the electrolytes that are infused with the water also help with staying hydrated. Even with hair, I've found that if I use filtered water tap water it shrivels my hair and makes it dry and brittle; so I can only imagine what it was doing to my insides when I drank it.

  • Optional: Celtic Sea Salt or Pink Himalayan Salt - I'm switching from Pink Himalayan Salt to Celtic Sea Salt because Celtic Sea Salt is dried via the sun, and I always appreciate getting extra solar chi/energy when I can. I notice it greatly improves my health. But both also contain between 34-84 minerals to boost one's health and vitality.
